MECHANICAL AIDS
After purchasing all of Yoshihito Isogawas Lego Technic Idea Books, I wanted to employ his beautiful creations to make a drawing. In Isogawa's second book Fantastic Contraptions there are many designs for 2 legged, 6 legged, rotating, vibrating, and otherwise wonderfully oscillating little toys. After despairing at which I could actually build with my paltry lego collection, I got started building and strapping markers to the legs.

ACTION PAINTINGS WITH LEGO SET 9392
I made this painting with a small IR controlled car made from the Quad Bike (9392) alternate model Race Buggy. Adding Power Functions to the existing model was very easy. The PF battery box and PF medium motor were easily installed on to the cab area and a PF large motor was installed on the rear wheel all geared 1/1. I added four connectors to add the PF battery box, one gear a lift arm and two gears to add the PF large motor. At this gearing I had no problem taking the car into grass and it was ok with some incline. After testing the Buggy, I poured some paint out on to plates and made a mess. I thought the lines would have some action because the buggy has problems staying straight due to the power of an ungeared PF medium as the steering motor.

TWOMBLY / WITTENMYER BOT 2.0
This drawing robot uses a Technic shock absorber (731c05) to dampen the rotating marks to the paper and keep the nxt motor on angle. The programming is incredibly simple, the robot moves one wheel or the other a minscule amount and then makes a light or hard mark. The robot generally moves in a line across the paper despite the random programming due to the low profile wheels. By driving the robot with two PF M motors and conversion cables, I could conserve the battery of the NXT brick. This robot design is only capable of making marks consistently from one angle. Co-named after my friend Jared Wittenmyer and venerable shaky handed artist Cy Twombly.

WIND-UP CATAPULT
Wind it up once you can fire armored minifigs at fiances and house pets. This little guy is a 40/16 geared single lever catapult with a stop at about 90 degrees. The poor little wind up motor could not take being geared any higher than this but it was enough to chuck a minifig a yard. I made the music with a Pico Paso which my friend gave to me for my birthday. I'm 29, fuck.

3D CAMERA (2X LUMIX DMC-FH20) WITH ACTUATING NXT TRIPOD
I made a table top 3D camera rig from Technic and NXT parts. The two Lumix 14Mp cameras fit perfectly into a studless system which does not prevent the battery or SD card from being removed. The triple actuator tripod design is incomplete, but provides 120 degrees of X angle rotation. My previous 3D rigs have oriented the cameras vertically, so you get a tall picture. Steroscopic photography cannot be flipped from landscape to profile in mid shoot. This setup gave the largest picture of any of my rigs after trimming the X offset of the two cameras in Stereoscopic Photo Maker. When you can't get strangers to take a decent picture of you, get out the Lego. Photos at Phereo.com/robogod if you've got a sterescopic setup.
